I chaired this Global Government Forum webinar on the NHS Single Patient Record: the commitment in the 10 Year Health Plan to bring together GP and hospital data in one record, visible to patients through the NHS App by 2028.
Our panel brought together the national programme, two of the more mature regional shared care records, and clinical leadership from an integrated care system:
- Paul Wilkinson, Digital Delivery Director, NHS England, and Programme Director for Transforming and Connecting Care, the programme delivering the Single Patient Record
- Lee Rickles, Chief Information Officer, Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust, and Director of Interweave, the platform behind the Yorkshire & Humber Care Record
- Dr Dan Alton, Chief Clinical Information Officer, NHS Thames Valley Integrated Care Board, GP and clinical lead for the Thames Valley and Surrey Shared Care Record
We looked at:
- where the programme has got to and the vision it is working towards
- what a single patient record means for patients, clinicians and partners beyond the NHS
- the role of the existing shared care records
- information governance
- the technical infrastructure, the NHS App and the links to the Federated Data Platform
- what previous national rollouts teach us about realistic timescales
Around 300 people joined the live event, and there were enough good questions to have kept us going for another hour. The discussion picked up themes from the report I wrote for Global Government Forum, A Fresh Mandate for Digital Leadership in the NHS.
