North East Futures UTC, Newcastle, 27 July 2018
I joined Margot James MP and regional technology leaders for a roundtable at the soon-to-open North East Futures University Technical College (UTC) in Newcastle.
The Minister for Digital and Creative Industries noted that the North East faces particular challenges in securing the skills required for the digital economy, while also recognising the strength of its universities and collaborative business community.
The £12 million UTC, located in Newcastle’s Stephenson Quarter, was preparing to open to students in September. The college specialises in digital technology and health science courses for 14–19 year olds.
Speakers:
- Mark Larsen, Managing Director, Accenture Newcastle
- Klaus-Michael Vogelberg, Chief Technology Officer, Sage
- Professor John Fitzgerald, Head of Newcastle University’s School of Computing
- Andrew Besford, Deputy Director, Government Digital Service
- Professor Rebecca Strachan, Northumbria University
